Thousands of spectators were frustrated as their homegrown legend Dhoni was out early in Ranchi.
Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been rested for the last two matches against Australia. After India lost to Australia in Ranchi by 32 runs on Friday. Team coach Sanjay Bangar gave the media information about the decision to rest Dhoni. India are still leading 2-1 in the five-match one-day series.
The speculation on yesterday’s match played in his home ground Ranchi can prove Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s last international match on India’s ground. Against Australia, India will now play in Mohali in the fourth match on March 10 and the final match on March 13 in Delhi. After this, India has no match commitment till October.
It is also believed that after the World Cup, Dhoni can say goodbye to international cricket. Although Jharkhand State Cricket Association believes that they will be hosting a limited overs match in the next domestic season where Dhoni can take part in the farewell match.
In the current series against Australia, M.S. Dhoni played an important role in India’s victory by scoring an unbeaten 59 in the first match played in Hyderabad, but in the last two matches, he could score only zero and 26 runs. India’s assistant coach Sanjay Bangar said after losing the 32-run defeat to India in the third ODI, “We will make some changes for the last two matches. Mahi will not play in the last two matches. He will rest. Rishabh Pant will play the role of wicket keeper in the last two ODIs in the absence of Dhoni.”
