Kohli has been nothing but remarkable in 2018. He won the ICC Test and ODI Cricketer of the Year this year. He is deemed among the best batsmen of this period along with NewZealand’s captain Kane Williamson, Australia’s Steve Smith (who has missed the most part of this year due to suspension). Kohli, who gave some magnificent performances in South Africa, England and Australia. Sangakkara said Sachin Tendulkar took 463 ODIs to score 49 hundred, while Virat has scored 39 centuries in 222 matches, i.e. less than half matches.
Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has said that Indian captain Virat Kohli is far ahead of all the batsmen of today’s era and are on the road to becoming the greatest.
“Everything about Virat’s game stands out. I think he is head and shoulders above anyone else in world cricket today, And I think going forward, he will be one of the greatest ever cricketers, if not the greatest ever, ”
Sangakkara’s former team-mate Mahela Jayawardene also praised Kohli. He said that the manner in which he battles with the expectations of 1.3 billion people is commendable. He said “It’s not just about the ability Virat has but to understand the way to handle pressure not just on the field but also off the field, and the expectations,” he added “We grew up with Sachin who had to perhaps experience the same thing. And for the next generation, it’s probably on Virat’s shoulders…”.
