After the tragic Christchurch terror attack in New Zealand, there is a report of a shooting at Oktoberplein in Utrecht’s Kanaleneiland district in the Netherlands where several people have been reportedly injured.
The incident happened around 10:45 AM in a tram by multiple perpetrators. The area is at high alert with emergency services being deployed in large numbers.
“Several shots were fired in a tram and several people were injured. Helicopters are at the scene and no arrests have been made,” said police spokesman Joost Lanshage.
Witness report says, “A man started shooting wildly. No idea if there was a reason for it. I have seen several injured people, including in the tram.”
An anti-terrorism unit has also been sent to the location in fear of more such attacks. The Prime Minister of Netherlands, Mark Rutte has also expressed that he is “very worried” about the incident.
The motive behind the attack has still not been confirmed with perpetrators still on the run.
